Cristina Alvizo Carranza intersticios.sociales@elcolegiodejalisco.edu.mx Open Journal Systems
Intersticios Sociales is an electronic journal in the Social Science and Humanities published every six months and edited by El Colegio de Jalisco, A.C. Our publication has international scope, subjects all manuscripts to a strict peer-review process, and offers totally open, free access. It is committed to generating and disseminating knowledge by publishing original, unedited works related to the areas of sociology, history, anthropology, law, political science, philosophy, geography, literary studies and other disciplines in the Social Sciences and Humanities.

The name of the journal comes from the term “interstitial”, which alludes to the zones (fissures, spaces or gaps) that exist between two entities or two parts of the same body, the observation, measuring, and location of which require specialized instruments. When incorporated into the study of social phenomena, this term has demonstrated its ability to make “faults”, “discontinuities” and niches of interaction between distinct elements intelligible.

By invoking this term in the milieu of the Social and Human Sciences, our journal encourages reflections on processes, spaces and new representations that fall into these “intersticios” and, as a result, are often overlooked by the analytical gaze of various disciplines and study models.

With these objectives in mind, Intersticios Sociales features four sections designed to stimulate debates on social reality: “Theoretical reflections”, “Social spaces for debate”; “General section”, and “Book reviews”.
https://www.intersticiossociales.com/index.php/is/article/view/656 Rural Youth in Mexico. Why Them? Why Right Now? 2024-06-20T15:07:01-06:00 Raul Anthony Olmedo Neri raul.olmedo@politicas.unam.mx
A historical-structural analysis of rural youth in Mexico is conducted. Through discourse analysis and the diachronic interpretation of official demographic statistics, elements regarding the visibility of this sector in the different development models employed since the second half of the 20th century are proposed.

Next, the relevance of rural youth within the analytical framework of the New Rurality is addressed, as this theoretical approach enables the decentralization and amplification of rural studies to recognize socially significant groups such as women and youth, for instance.

In summary, this work offers a long-term perspective on rural youth and the theoretical and structural transformations that allow this group to be recognized within Mexican rurality.
2025-11-25T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.intersticiossociales.com/index.php/is/article/view/671 Heros in the Worker Press. An Analysis of its Stages and Influence in Torreón, Coahuila at the Beginning of the 20th Century 2024-07-03T10:34:56-06:00 José Alejandro Vásquez Hernández alejandrovasquez58@gmail.com
The process of sportivization in Mexico originated between the Porfiriato (1876-1910) and the Post-revolutionary period, following an evolution in four stages: 1) the influence of European immigrants, railway expansion, and the mining industry; 2) the establishment of social and sports clubs in cities, driven by foreigners and local elites; 3) the development of civic-military events promoted by the State, and 4) the incorporation of physical education in schools. However, this process did not develop uniformly across the country. This article analyzes the sportivization of Torreón, Coahuila, a city established in 1907 and marked by economic growth driven by the industrialization of cotton and the arrival of the railroad (1883). Through the study of bibliographic, documentary, and newspaper sources –particularly archives from the Archivo Municipal de Torreón and the newspaper El Siglo de Torreón– the first two stages of this process (1883-1920) are examined. The findings reveal that sportivization in Torreón was strongly influenced by economic and migratory factors, which facilitated the introduction of sports such as baseball and football in the region. This research contributes to the historical memory of the city and lays the groundwork for future studies on the history of sports in northern Mexico.

2025-10-29T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.intersticiossociales.com/index.php/is/article/view/668 “Consuma más azúcar”. This article examines how the magazine legitimized mass sugar consumption through nutritional discourses that framed it as an essential component of daily nutrition. Through recipes, domestic economy advice, and advertising strategies, the magazine reinforced traditional household and femininity values. Using a historical and nutritional approach, we analyze Almanaque Dulce issues from 1937 to 1959 alongside cookbooks and domestic economy manuals, contrasting them with contemporary research on food and public health. The findings reveal how the magazine shaped sugar perception, associating it with well-being and nutrition while integrating its consumption into domestic economy practices and children’s diets. We conclude that Almanaque Dulce contributed to the normalization of sugar in the Mexican diet and that its discourse aligned with industrial and political interests that benefited the sugar industry throughout the 20th Century.
2025-10-29T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.intersticiossociales.com/index.php/is/article/view/723 Equality and inclusion in Higher Education: analysis of proposals, experiences, progress and challenges 2025-07-08T16:28:09-06:00 María del Carmen Quevedo-Marín maria.quevedo@academicos.udg.mx
In this book, you will find valuable proposals from 15 academics from countries such as Chile, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, and Spain, who, in seven chapters, present an in-depth and critical analysis of the current situation of the institutionalisation of equality in their own institutions, its challenges, advances, and experiences. It is a collective effort that seeks, through its research and reflections, to showcase experiences in the construction and implementation of participatory diagnoses, equality policies, or the results of empirical research on the participation, situation, and conditions of women in student, academic, or government bodies.
2025-11-25T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2025 https://www.intersticiossociales.com/index.php/is/article/view/745 91 / 5.000 Metropolitan management in Mexico: Finance, citizen participation, and public policy 2025-07-21T11:45:16-06:00 Abril Casas abrilfcasas@gmail.com
The book Metropolitan Management in Mexico: Finance, Citizen Participation, and Public Policy is a thorough work from beginning to end. Each chapter is woven together to offer a clear picture of the phenomenon of metropolitanization. The work broadens the perspective on metropolitan management and, in a clear and eloquent manner, introduces the reader to issues and spaces that invite a complex understanding of it.
2025-11-25T00:00:00-06:00 Copyright (c) 2025
