Determining Factors for the Formation of a Competitive Agro-Food Cluster of Avocado Producers in the Southern Region of Jalisco, Mexico

Abstract

The objective of the article is to analyze the factors that influence the formation of a functional and competitive agri-food cluster of avocado producers in the southern region of Jalisco, Mexico. Avocado production has shown its dynamism derived from the demand for the product and the geographical and climatic conditions in the region, however, it has been limited by organizational and coordination factors between producers, the government, the financial sector and the centers. research. The methodology includes a documentary review, the application of an interview and surveys to producers and a statistical analysis of the results obtained. The results suggest that the formation of an avocado agri-food cluster in the southern region of Jalisco is a viable option due to the particular characteristics of the region and its competitive advantages. Although it has not yet been formally established, the creation of this cluster would represent an area of opportunity in organizational, collaboration, strategic aspects, technological development and its sustainable growth in the medium and long term, to respond to global challenges, in competitive terms, institutional and regulatory. Likewise, this case study contributes to the literature on organizational aspects in the agri-food sector, in Mexico or other countries.
