Happiness and subjective well-being have been the focus of study in disciplines such as psychology, sociology, and economics. Although often associated with concepts such as quality of life, life satisfaction, and positive affect, their definitions vary depending on the theoretical framework and context. Recent research highlights the relevance of subjective well-being as a key component of health, personal success, and life satisfaction. Various factors –including gender, health, sleep habits, marital status, and social relationships–have been significantly associated with perceptions of happiness. This study examines the factors influencing the subjective well-being of university students in south Tamaulipas, Mexico. A well-being scale based on the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire was applied. The ordered logit model revealed that perceived health and the frequency of interaction with friends are key variables. The findings emphasize the influence of social relationships and health status on the emotional well-being of young university students. Findings offer implications for researchers, academics, and policymakers, and reveal fruitful avenues for future research.References
